Listening Session

The Blue Hour

An evening session for the last light of the day — modal jazz and quiet soul, played as the room turns to dusk.

A small evening listening gathering in low light around a glowing hi-fi as blue dusk fills the window

The Blue Hour begins when the lamps are lit but not yet needed. We gather as the day gives out, pour something warm, and let the room settle into that particular half-light that seems made for a certain kind of record.

The music is chosen for the hour: modal jazz that breathes, soul that aches gently, the sort of playing that sounds like it is being made up in the moment for the few people lucky enough to be in the room.

We play one side, in full, in silence. Then the lamps come on properly, and the conversation begins — about what we heard, and about everything the music reminded us of.
